Wood vs. Aluminum By: ky Schlosberg
question Which bat will hit the ball farther? Wood or aluminum.
hypothesis My hypothesis is that the aluminum bat will hit farther, because the aluminum bat is hollow and the wood bat isn’t. And it pops more off a bat that is hollow than not.
Research The Wood bat was invented some where in the late 1800’s. At first they were all different shapes and sizes , then in 1859 a rule was made that bats could only have 2.5 inches in diameter. The aluminum bat was first patented in 1924 by William Shroyer. This idea supposividly came to him when there was a lot of splintering of the wooden bats.
Design of experiment control: I will use the same amount force when I hit the ball with both bats. Variable: I will use a different kinds of bat. The wind and height of the tee are also variables.
the experiment Here is me conducting my experiment… wood aluminum
results Bat Good hits Avg. distance
conclusion My hypothesis was correct. The aluminum bat hit better than the wood bat. I can conclude this because I had better distance and good hits with the aluminum bat, compared to the wood bat. So, aluminum bats hits better than wood bat. Therefore the aluminum bat wins! The End
