This article discusses the law and regulations regarding manual handling, including load limitations and recommendations. It covers the relevant regulations, recommendations from CRAM (Health), AFNOR Norm X.35-109, and the European Directive. The article also explores practical limits to prevent musculoskeletal disorders and provides examples of load, distance, and total weight per day limitations. It also mentions an experimental standard that considers factors such as load, height distance, frequency, walking distance, conditions, age, and gender.

Regulation Law Limits (kg) in normal use
Regulated approach • CRAM Recommendations • Practical limits to prevent from MSD • Article 1.1 gives the following figures : • Load : F < 30kg • Distance : d < 30m • Total per day : p < 10 tonnes • With the following rule : F x d x p < 800 • Example : F=20kg + d=4m + p=10t/j F x d x p = 800 • That means 500 handlings into 8 hours, (1 per minute !!)
Regulated approach • Experimental Standard NF X 35-109 focussed on the same rule depending on : • the load • height distance • fréquency • walking distance • way conditions • age and sexe
