Creating a Blundell Chain: Put your initial fact or premise in a box in the center of the page In each direction, write an implication or potential result that stems from the central idea Start stringing together “hypothetical syllogisms” (if X, then Y) Keep adding branches—see what unexpected places you land

Finding an Angle • LOCALIZATION: How is your topic relevant to Washington or Seattle or Bainbridge Island or BHS? • PERSONALIZATION: What’s in it for you? • PROJECTION: What are the consequences? What will or could happen? How might people react? • What other ideas do you have to transform a broad or generic topic into an interesting perspective?

  5. Which nonfiction text structure works best for your topic and your angle? • DESCRIPTION • SEQUENCE & ORDER • PROBLEM & SOLUTION • COMPARE & CONTRAST • CAUSE & EFFECT
