  4. Mentoring can be formal or informal. If formal, clear objectives should be set.

  5. In mentoring intentionality makes a difference.

  6. Mentoring is about relationship. Trust must be established and maintained, or the relationship will not be healthy.

  7. A mentor can have more than 1 protégé.

  8. A protégé can have more than 1 mentor.

  9. Group mentoring One mentor…several protégés.Meeting together, at the same time.

  10. Constellation mentoring One protégé…several mentors. Not meeting together at the same time.

  13. A mentor can initiate the relationship. Or…

  14. A mentee can initiate the relationship.

  21. Coachability… …is a desired trait in junior employees.

  22. Leadership… …is a desired trait in senior employees.

  23. Selflessness “Authentic mentoring, mentoring like Jesus did, involves selflessness. It says, ‘I’m going to give to you…put you first…let you learn from my mistakes, and get nothing in return.’ In a sense the mentor says, ‘I’ve paid the price (via my mistakes) to learn what I’ve learned. I’m going to give you the benefit of that price so you won’t have to pay it.’” Regi Campbell, p.28

  26. With End in Mind Regi Campbell has applicants for his mentoring program write an obituary. This follows the principle of Steven Covey’s 7 Habit of Highly Successful People: Begin with the end in mind.

  27. With End in Mind “I try to eliminate the candidates who seem to have the most mature, well-balanced view of their future. They have less need to be mentored. I try to pick the least mature, most needy future leaders because they are the people I may be able to help the most.” Regi Campbell

  30. Oh I wish I could make it.  I'll be traveling on the 28th. Thanks for the offer. I never told you but I got a job with Sewanee!  I'm an assistant track and cross country coach.  I also got asked to teach a running class.  Anyway, I believe that the mentoring class helped me a lot with networking and really helped me think about what I truly wanted to do.  I can't thank you enough.
