Scientific Method Revealed Scientific Method = A way of thinking that attempts to answer questions and find evidence to support those answers.  Steps in the Scientific Way of Thinking (Method) • Make observations about some specific thing in the world around you. • Question Observation/ Make an inference or come up with logical explanations about your observations. 3. Make a prediction statement or Hypothesis about an experiment or test you might run to learn more about the phenomenon you are studying.

  3. Scientific Method Revealed • Create and run a Controlled Experiment with three variable types: a. Manipulated Variable = One Single change made in the entire experiment. b. Controlled Variables = held constant and do not change during the experiment. • Responding Variable = the result/outcome caused by the change made with the manipulated variable. • Make Measurements and Collect Data/Results to be analyzed, make more inferences to explain. • Write a finalConclusionthat discusses whether or not your hypothesis was proven or disproven. • Publish your work in a journal and hopefully others will repeat your work or add to it.

Scientific Method Revealed • 80% of ALL SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE has been discovered in the last 100 years!! • There is still a lot for us to learn. • More Science Vocabulary: • Science Theory – Explanation of findings that is supported by many experiments and much evidence. Shapeable and changeable but difficult to disprove. • Science Law – Describes findings but does not explain them. Considered a “truth” or “fact.”
