Evaluating the drivability of the RDE-LDV cycles Pierre Bonnel Martin Weiss Joint Research Centre (JRC) IES - Institute for Energy and Transport Ispra – Italy
Heinz Steven designed three RDE-LDV test cycles based on short trips contained in the WLTP database Each cycle consists of 3 phases of 300 s each (low, medium, high speed) The three cycles display low, medium, and high severity, based on the 5-, 50-, and 95-percentile of acceleration parameters of short trips The three RDE-LDV test cycles were distributed for vehicle testing in July 2011 Background
Vehicle: Euro 6 diesel (4 cylinder, 1968 ccm; 105 kW, 155 g CO2/km; SCRand automatic transmission Pre-test of each cycle by the lab personal for assessing drivability One professional driver drove all cycles One test drive prior to emissions testing; three repetitions of each cycle Cycle testing
Overview deviations • Complete RDE-LDV cycles: Deviation driven vs. scheduled speed • Three repetitions; 2 km/h interval for NEDC (and WLTC) testing
Overview deviations • Complete RDE-LDV cycles: Deviation driven vs. scheduled speed
Overview deviations • Complete RDE-LDV cycles: Deviation driven vs. scheduled speed • Error margins decreased with increasing driver’s experience • Severity increases error margins • Error margins generally below the 2 km/h threshold
Overview deviations • Speed phases of RDE-LDV cycles: Deviation driven vs. scheduled speed
Overview deviations of • Speed phases of RDE-LDV cycles: Deviation driven vs. scheduled speed • Low-speed and high-speed phases shows largest deviations • Severity increases error margins • Error margins generally below the 2 km/h threshold
Overview critical points • RDE-LDV cycles: Critical points
Overview critical points • RDE-LDV cycles: Critical points • Rapid changes in acceleration/deceleration at low speeds in 1st gear for vehicles equipped with manual gear shift
Overview critical points • RDE-LDV cycles: Critical points • Rapid changes in acceleration/deceleration at very low speeds for vehicles equipped with manual gear shift • High acceleration events of the severe cycle
