The Human Element The human element is our most important consideration. Set the tone and create a climate for each and everyone to excel. Followership grows with individual growth and enthusiasm.
Attitude Is Everything • Attitude is the way you think. • Your attitude is something other people can actually see. • They hear it in your voice, they see it in the way you move, feel it when they are with you. • Your attitude expresses itself in everything you do, all the time, wherever you are.
The Leadership Challenge • Praise/discipline them • They will be you/You were them • Help them to be tomorrow’s Senior Leaders • Lead them • Teach them • Encourage them to try/take risks • Observe and adjust them
Mentoring • Must make the time . . . Use it wisely . . . One-on-One • Be responsible/accountable for all aspects of their professional life and personal well-being • Set clear, high standards. Demand their Best . . . Always. • Know your people and their record. Provide honest feedback . Build on strengths . . . Assist to improve weaknesses. • Assist with career planning
Character • Honesty • Genuine…Up Front • Do something at their expense . . . You’ll lose them • Without trust . . . You can’t lead • Not what you say, but what you do . . . Must see you do the “hard things” • Sacrifice for them . . . Work hard and endure even greater hardship • Give them credit for the good . . . You take the blame for the bad.
Care For Your People • They expect 150% of your time and your best effort . . . ALWAYS • Everyday . . . Someone needs your care, your concern, and your help. • Spend extra time to get to know them • Really care for them, sacrifice for them, simply enjoy being with them • Place their welfare above yours • Teach them . . . Work with them . . . Help them reach for the highest standards
Professional Competence • Skill • Knowledge • Experience • Study continuously • Teach them • Practice with them • They must be confident in your skill/knowledge
