  3. NABCI-Canada Accomplishments • State of Canada’s Birds report 2012 • Bird Conservation Region (BCR) Strategies in 2014 • State of North America’s Birds Report (SoNAB) in 2016 • Joint Venture 5-year plans with all-bird components

  4. Good Timing for Renewal • NABCI Canada fits well within the priorities and strategic direction of the Canadian government and CWS • Prevention stream of the CWS Habitat Stewardship Program provides a funding opportunity • New Vision launched on December 7, 2016 for North American bird conservation solicited as part of MBC Centennial • Partners in Flight 2016 report creates energy for action

  5. Consultation with Council Members • Ongoing • Feedback will help guide: • NABCI-Canada’s main roles • Determine what worked or didn’t work in the past • Understand how their organization can contribute to NABCI and how NABCI can help their mandates

  6. New NABCI-Canada Executive • Executive Members: • Bob McLean (CWS - Chair) • David Ingstrup (Prairie Habitat JV - JVs) • James Duncan (Manitoba – wildlife director) • Steven Price (Bird Studies Canada - ENGO) • Tara Shea (Mining Association of Canada - industry)

Communication is key! • Periodic newsletter • First edition broadly distributed to members and partners on Jan 11, 2017 • Purpose is to communicate: • Updates on NABCI • National or international news on bird conservation • Success stories from the Canadian field • NABCI-Canada new website (ongoing effort) • Re-engage partners to be able to achieve the ultimate goal: integrated hemispheric all bird conservation

  9. NABCI-Canada Partnership Opportunities with U.S. NABCI • Tri-national steering committee • Grassland project submission for the 2017-18 CEC operational plan • And many others!
