IB Diploma Programme Requirements • 6 subjects studied over 2 years (11th – 12th grade) • Exams at completion of courses • Core requirements • Theory of Knowledge class (at school) • Extended Essay (on your own, with limited help at school) • Creativity, Action, Service (on your own, with direction from a teacher)
IB Subjects(1 from each area) • Group 1 • English HL • Group 2 • Spanish SL or HL • French SL or HL • Group 3 • History of the Americas HL • Psychology SL (1-yr.) • Group 4 • Biology SL or HL • Physics SL or HL • Group 5 • Mathematics SL or HL • Group 6 • Visual Art SL or HL • OR another option from Groups 1-5 • Theory of Knowledge
What can you expect from the IB program? • Homework • Independent work – Responsibility! • Challenging – more than Honors classes • Fewer elective choices
Who should do IB? • Full Diploma prerequisites • MUST be enrolled in French or Spanish II or III as 10th grader • Algebra II is highly recommended • Signature from Mrs. Jennings during scheduling • Individual Diploma Course prerequisites • A/B in previous level course, and sometimes in related courses (see Course Planner) • Signature from Mrs. Jennings during scheduling • You must be a responsible, self-motivated student!
Why do IB? • College admissions • Possible scholarships • Possible college credit • Challenge yourself
Scheduling This Year • Enroll in at least Foreign Language II • Enroll in as many Honors classes as possible • Enroll in Algebra II • Talk to your Math teacher about doubling in Geometry and Algebra II, if necessary • Honors is not required • Remember graduation requirements • Include in your schedule OR • Consider summer school • Health • Career Opportunities • 1.0 Fine Art • 1.0 Practical Art • 0.5 PE
