A C T Take the October 26th test. The deadline is September 27. You can see your counselor to see if you qualify for a Fee Waiver.
Select a College • Find one that fits YOU. • Is location important to you? • Does it offer the major you are considering? • Do you prefer a larger or smaller college? • Can you afford it? Your school counselor can suggest websites that will help you, but YOU need to investigate.
Visit colleges • Visiting colleges will help: • you get a feel for the college • see if there are students you could connect with • see what is around the campus to do and eat • see the dorms • speak with a professor in your area of study Look at the college’s website and sign up for a visit/tour Pick up a college visit form in the Guidance Office and fill it out

Scholarships Look at the school website for updates on scholarships Look a the scholarship bulletins When you apply for scholarships you need to ask yourself how are you settingyourself apart from the other candidates. You want essays that are well written with no errors and make you unique. Talk about a struggle you have overcome or a good deed that you have done.

FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) In the spring between January 1 and Feb 15 fill out your FASFA online You will need information from your parents’ tax forms. This will tell you for which Grants and Loans you qualify. GRANT – Money that is given to you. You don’t have to payback. LOAN – Money that is loaned to you that you payback with interest.
Recommendations • Choose wisely! • You want a teacher that knows you well • You want a teacher that will take the time to help you shine. • Ask nicely, be gracious, give them plenty of notice. • Give them a brag sheet to help them remember all the terrific things you have done.
