CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION PLAN • 9 aims • Reduce BFC greenhouse gas emissions • To meet LAA targets • To implement new policies to reduce greenhouse gases • To provide a focus for climate change • To support other strategies (eg biodiversity) • To encourage partners to engage in the agenda • To help prepare for the impact of climate change • To demonstrate the economic, social and environmental benefits • To change attitudes about the use of natural resources
LA CARBON MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME • Carbon Trust Programme for: • Local authorities, NHS trusts, universities • Provides tools and consultant support to: • Establish CO2 baseline • Identify CO2 reduction opportunities • Develop a Carbon Management Plan • Embed carbon management in Council • Supports NI185: CO2 reduction from LA operations
LA CARBON MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME • Project Board established including: • Director EC&C (Project Sponsor) • Executive Member for Environment (Member Sponsor) • Chairman Environment Overview & Scrutiny Committee • Reduction target on 2008 baseline - 30% by 2012 • Carbon Management Plan due March 2009 • Executive approval by June 2009
