Background • Students need to be competent users of NHS Core Content in professional life • GMC requirement • Limited opportunities to train • Not about HEIs cancelling content – non-NHS researchers need to retain existing HE content • Successful 3 year project to register medic & nursing students in HE and to teach/learn/use before placement UHMLG Chilworth 2011

  3. Current status 2011 • Core Content eligibility categories extended and widened to all health care students • Eligibility criteria… • F. Individuals engaged to provide education, training or research for the NHS in England • G. Healthcare students, from the date of commencement of an NHS-commissioned education programme which involves practice and placement within NHS provider services, for the duration of their programme. UHMLG Chilworth 2011

  5. Timescale for T&F work • Complete by September 2011 • Communications plan • Core Content LOs reviewed & tweaked • Support networks established in outline • Written technical info for HE admins • Bulk upload instructions • Soft start enabled for early adopters • But - rollout of Athens to HE to be phased over a long period of time! UHMLG Chilworth 2011

  6. Issues for HE Librarians • NHS uses Athens not Shibboleth • Athens admins needed in HE/FE libraries • Who are the eligible HE and FEIs? (71 to date) • Workload and training for admins • Peer support networks of HE Athens admins matched on NHS regions – allows help from NHS Athens admins too • Registration process? Secure bulk upload? UHMLG Chilworth 2011

  7. Other considerations for HE • Student data – first name, last name and email address (.ac. required!) • Suitability of existing NHS learning objects for Core Content • Academic advocacy • Place in curriculum (timing and activities) • Message to students in advance • Access to local ‘enhanced’ core content UHMLG Chilworth 2011
