Catalyst • How many grams are in 4 moles of H2O • I want to make a 2L 0.7 M solution of KBr. How many grams of KBr do I need? End
INTRO • How many times have you felt like you were working hard and still not succeeding? • How do you study? Give specifics • If you don’t study often, why don’t you study often? If you do study often, do you think you study effectively? • How do you plan out your schedule for a week? • On the strip of colored paper, write your favorite reason why you do not study.
Practicing is not… • Staring at your notes • Doing your homework • Writing your lab reports • Sleeping with your notebook under your pillow • Reading the textbook
Practice Practice Practice! • Focus your Practice - Don’t just study for the sake of studying. Give studying an objective with a criteria for success. • Practice until it is automatic • Practice the good, the bad, and the ugly • Drill baby drill! • Isolate content you want to master • Begin incorporating more ideas into your studying as you master isolated skills • What’s your plan?
How to Practice/Study • Drill specific skills using worksheets, problem sets, etc. • Re-work problems that were covered in class • Do as many problems as possible! • Go over problems that you did incorrectly, analyze the mistakes you made • Summarize complex topics from your notes. Re-write portions of your notes • Make flashcards of terms/ideas • Create a concept map of ideas from the entire unit, entire quarter, or entire year! • Do practice FRQ Problems (only if you are confident on the skills we have learned!)
Learning Targets • Based on the exit ticket and your current level of understanding, rate yourself 1 – 4 on LT 3.1-3.8. • If you haven’t learned the topic, put a zero

I. Multiple Step Stoichiometry • To go from grams to moles we need to multiply or divide by the molar mass • To go from moles to particles we need to multiply or divide by 6.022 x 1023 particles
Class Example • I pour 42 g of KBr out of a bag. How many particles did I pour out of the bag?
Table Talk • I use 40 x 1023 particles of NaOH in a reaction. How many grams of NaOH did I use in this reaction?
Question 1 • You have 32 g of H2O. How many particles do you have?
Question 2 • You have 12 x 1023 particles of O2. How many grams of O2 do you have?
Question 3 • You dissolve 14 g of HCl in 2 L. What is the molarity?
Question 4 • You want to make a 0.5 M solution of H2SO4 that has a final volume of 2 L. What is the amount of grams that you need to dissolve in order to achieve this?
Question 5 • You run a reaction with 42 g of HBr. How many particles did you use?
The Amazing Race • There are 8 different clues that you and your teammate will be given. • These clues are around the room and will require you to solve various stoichiometry problems. • There are different types of problems that you will face and difficulty of the stoichiometry problem depends on the portion of the race that you are on • You must check your answers with me before moving on!
Detour • You will have to choose between two stoichiometry problems before you start working on them. • You must decide on the one you want to solve before beginning • Fast Forward • An intense stoich. problem that if you get it right will jump you to the end of the race. Can only be completed at Stop 6. • Yield • At multiple points in the race there will be yield signs. • At one point you can have a group behind you stop and wait 3 min. The team must be behind you and you must give me your yield card • Roadblock • Before beginning you must decide on one person to solve the problem. • You cannot help the person
