  3. 1st Battle of Bull Run • First battle of the war July 1861 • North realized after this battle that the war would not be easy or end quickly

Stonewall Jackson • Led a valley campaign for 3 months in 1862 • “If this Valley is lost, Virginia is lost.” • Military reputation is perhaps greater than any other Civil War General because he won with a smaller army the majority of the time.
