  3. Who was Ptolemy and what did he believe about the universe? • Ancient Greco-Roman astrologer & astronomer • Believed in a geocentric theory of the universe – it says the sun, moon, stars, and planets revolve around the earth

  4. Who was Nicolaus Copernicus and what did he believe about the universe? • Polish astronomer and mathematician • After 25 years of studying, he concluded that the sun was the center of the universe not the earth • Most people at the time did not believe his theory.

  5. Who was Johannes Kepler and what did he believe about the universe? • A German astronomer • Helped to prove Copernicus’s heliocentric theory of the universe – it says that the earth revolves around the sun

  6. Summary • Write a 5+ sentence summary explaining how the view of the universe changed from Ptolemy to Copernicus and Kepler.
