The USMC International Affairs Program (IAP) aims to identify, educate, and select Marines with language skills, regional expertise, and cultural capabilities. This program is designed to enhance MAGTF plans, operations, security cooperation, and intelligence efforts. The program offers two tracks for accession and retention: Study Track (Full/Partial) and Experience Track.

Mission of IAP To identify, select, and educate a cadre of Marines with Language skills, Regional Expertise, and Culture (LREC) capabilities for future assignments on tactical, operational, and strategic-level Marine Corps staffs, joint and combined staffs, and for duty with interagency organizations in order to improve MAGTF plans, operations, security cooperation, and intelligence efforts.

USMC FAO/RAO billets • USMC has 164 billets: 150 FAO billets + 14 RAO billets • 60% of USMC FAO/RAO billets are Service billets; 40% are Joint. • USMC RAOs can be assigned to FAO billets where language requirements are not stipulated; or where DIA provides language training.
