The Tanguy Tower • The Tanguy Tower was built in the XIVth century to watch out for enemy boats arriving in the bay of Brest. • It is situated opposite Brest Castle, along the Penfeld River.
Inside the tower… • There are models of old Brest with its fortifications, frescoes and paintings from the XIXth century.
An old church • Saint Martin church was built between 1869 and 1877. • The style of this church is neo-romanesque and neo-gothic. • It is one of the rare monuments that escaped the bombing of Brest during the second world war.
Brest castle • The castle of Brest is also part of the few monuments that were not destroyed during the war. • In the 3rd century, there was a Roman fortress where the castle now stands.
The castle seen from the sea • Today the castle houses the museum of the Navy. • It is really worth visiting.
The war memorial • It was built in 1954 to honour all those who died for France. • It is situated on the main public square of Brest, in front of the townhall between Siam and Jean-Jaurès streets, the two major commercial avenues in the town center.
