  2. Purpose • Why a leadership team? • What role will you serve? • How to best utilize your time? • How to best serve your colleagues? • What is needed?

  3. Why a leadership team? • 1) Guidance for others • 2) Experts in the field • 3) Advocates for the program – Important for success. • 4) Be the eyes and ears for administration. • Address issues before they become problems.

  4. What role will you serve? • Brainstorm • In what ways do you feel you can best help your fellow teachers? • What specifics do you need to be successful? • What fears do you have going into this project?

  5. What role will you serve? • Leaders – by example • Helpers - • Mentors • Listeners – People will not always like this – you must listen to their concerns and help in any way to make things better.

  6. How to best utilize your time • Monthly meetings for Leadership team. • Specific time set aside for tech paths in the school setting. – In-service – late starts, early dismissals, paid Saturdays etc. • Set specific goals by department. • One class for each teacher to be mapped by a set time. • Discuss in department meetings or time when members can get together.

  7. How to best serve your colleagues. • Divide up the staff amongst the leadership team. This will be your mentor group. • Responsibility of you for your group: • Make sure they are doing what they need to do. (Check up on them once a month). • Provide guidance and help for them when needed. • Create a checklist to organize your meetings. • Listen to their concerns and try to steer them in the right direction.

What is needed • Specific meeting times and places – always same time and place • Support from admin to provide time to the leadership team to be properly trained. • Time for all staff to be able to enter data into maps. • Ongoing training to keep up to date on the latest innovations and changes in program.

  9. How we do it. • Monthly Meetings. 2:00-3:30 • Teams set up to represent all grade levels: • Superintendent, Elementary Principal, Ass’t. Principal Jr./Sr. High School. • 9 Teacher members • Set Agenda for each meeting: • Consultant Help – Tammy Bauck

  10. How we do it. • At 1st – Late Starts one time each month for data entry into maps. • Leadership team helped during this time with their assigned staff members to ensure all staff were working with their maps.

How we do it. • Now – we use one day per quarter for staff development – Usually half of that day is set aside for mapping. • Staff Meetings – Tech paths is a part of this. – Discussions on how it is going – Using reports to track data – standards, etc. • Department Meetings – This is a topic that is on all of our agendas for each staff meeting. Must be turned into Admin. • Mentors – check up on staff one time a month.

Lessons Learned • Need time to talk and meet as a staff. • Communication Structures • Physical Proximity – k-12 must work together and find a common place to discuss, talk, and stay on the same page. (Leadership team) • Trust and respect – Staff must by in – This is where you come in. • Small steps – One class first year – second class the next year, etc.

  13. What is Curriculum Mapping? • An on-going process for planning, implementing, and reflecting on student learning.

  14. Stages • The Three Stage Process • Data Entry – (This is where you are at now.) • Read Through – After two years • Integration into District’s Continuous Improvement Process – Where we are beginning right now. 4th Year.
