  1. Excellence in General Dental practice series by Dr. Veerendra Darakh DOUBLE IMPRESSION TRAY TECHNIQUE A 55 year old male patient presented with a highly resorbed mandibular ridge and with three natural teeth. He did not want them to be extracted. It was decided to retain those teeth and utilize them as passive retention for partial denture.

  2. A special tray made for a case with a resorbed mandibular ridge with three non extracted teeth. The props are mushroom shaped. Double impression tray technique

  3. After border moulding. Border moulding is done as usual like complete denture case. The tray is perofrated. Double impression tray technique

  4. Impression with Zinc oxide eugenol impression paste. The impression is then placed in the ridge. A second impression was then taken with a rubber based impression material. This impression was firmly held on the ridge by auxiliary staff while the light body was flown all over. This is a very important step. Note: If the impression is not taken in Zinc oxide eugenol impression paste it will not be possible to stabilize the denture during the pick up impression. Double impression tray technique

  5. The final impression. This technique is used in cases where a long span partial denture has to be fabricated and is especially useful in case where the remaining ridge is resorbed. Double impression tray technique

  6. In cases of resorbed ridges effort must be made to extend the removable prosthesis to the limits of the oral cavity. Double impression tray technique
