Patrick Henry • Patriot • Believed Britain was using it’s power unfairly • Wrote a speech supporting war against Britain • He was for saying, “Give me liberty or give me death”.
George Washington • Patriot • Congress created a new army called the Continental Army. They chose Washington to be in charge of the Continental Army. • They did this because he had fought in the French and Indian War, was brave, and was a skilled soldiers.
King George III • King of England during the Revolutionary War • Taxed the colonists to pay for the costs of the French& Indian War
Thomas Paine • Wrote a pamphlet called Common Sense • Wrote that King George treated the colonies unfairly.
John Adams • Argued strongly for independence • Signed the declaration of independence • Later became the 2nd president of the United States
Thomas Jefferson • Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence • It declared why the colonies needed to become independent from Britain
Samuel Adams • Leader of the Sons of Liberty where he organized protests against the Stamp Act • Helped set up the committee of correspondence
