The ASG press device is used for the fabrication of the LHC cold masses. It includes a sliding bench, hydraulic jacks, and a reaction beam. It is capable of applying up to 2000 tons of pressure. This device is used for collaring and yoke integration, with dedicated tooling for spacer and yoke assembly.

Press Device • Collaring/yoke-integration press • The ASG press device is one used for the fabrication of the LHC cold masses. • Itismainlycomposed by: • A sliding benchthatallows the insertionextraction of the assy to be pressed • A serie of hydraulic jacks that press the object from the bottom to the top • A reaction beam on the top thatcontrasts the pressing force • For the subsequentapplications i.e. for SYS300, for the D2-Model and then for the D2-Prototype the device isrevamped and adapted to the new situation. • In the actualconfiguration: i.e. 8 hydraulic jacks can press till to 2000 tons. • Application: itisused for both collars assythan for the yokeintegration by inserting a dedicated set of spacers. www.asgsuperconductors.com

Press Device Collaring press – actual status At present the press works manually by actingonto the pumping device. All the jacks work in parallel i.e. the force isequal for everyone. No possibilityexists to adjust the single cylinder force (only the possibility to exclude one or more jacks). An analogic pressure gaugeindicatesatwhich pressure levelyou’reworking.
