  1. ABSTRACTPHOTOGRAPHY • Three essentials to abstract photography: • form • color • curves

  2. FORM • Form - the core of an image(color and curves add enhancements. ) • Start off with good form • this is CRUCIAL • Choose objects that have shapes that are: • pleasing • interesting or • dynamic

  3. COLOR • Color – grabs and holdsthe attention of the viewer and stimulates the viewer's perceptual system • Choose color that is: • Saturated or • Intense

  4. CURVES • Curves - add interest to the composition • Control the movement in the composition • Direct viewer’s attention to the center of interest

  5. SUBTRACTION - before

  6. SUBTRACTION - after

  7. ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPH • Does not represent the subject in a literal way. • Communicates primarily through form, color, and curves rather than image detail • Consider: • Is your image original, innovative and daring, or just another example of the same old thing? Does it fulfill the requirements for the assignment? • Have you used the appropriate elements and principles of design that would enhance your photograph or did you just shoot what was in front of the camera? Have you used good composition or did you just place the center of interest in the center because it was easy?

  8. ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPH • For this project we will consider abstract photography something that is based on a real object, but your depiction of the object generally emphasizes line, color, shape, geometrical forms, and their relationship to one another instead of a realistic representation of the object itself. Getting in close will help • Do some research. Search abstract photography examples, master work, and student work. Look at the samples you find. Go out and create your own images. Experiment with different positions and angles. The more you experiment the better your images will be. At first glance the viewer should not be able to identify the object, subject, location, etc.

  9. ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPH • Save your photograph in your Photography folder as: “Abstract_LastName.jpg” • When you are ALL done, reshoots and improvements have been considered, and you have properly named your file, save your Photograph to our Final Photograph folder in your Google Drive • Fill out the Self Evaluation sheet and consider any improvements .
