  2. What about Violent Video Games? • Violent Video games are a hot topic • Studies “show” an increase in aggression of children who play Violent Video Games • I will use the Pediatrics Study of Violent Video Games upon Children to explain why this is not true. • I am for Violent Video Games

  3. Let’s Define a Violent Video Game • The ESRB(Entertainment Software Ratings Board) is resposnsible for rating games. • The label is placed on the game packaging intended for parents to see it • Sometimes the parents do not care or do not see it • This can lead to young children playing video games

  4. Pediatrics Violent Video Game Study • We provide the first test of longer-term violent video game effects on aggression crossculturally. • The obtained longitudinal effects in American and Japanese youth samples confirm that playing violent video games is a significant causal risk factor for later aggression. -Pediatric Study

  5. What do they consider a violent video game? • The Pediatric Study considers a violent Video game to be E+10 and greater • Remember that this is a rating Everyone 10 and up • Violent media are those that depict characters intentionally harming other characters who presumably wish to avoid being harmed. Thus, even children’s video games that lack depictions of blood and gore can, and frequently do, include violence. I jump on turtles!

  6. What is this Aggression? • Aggression is an act conducted by 1 person with the intent of hurting another person it is not an emotion, thought, or intention. • Video games are not real and thus do not cause anyone to actually harm another. • In order for someone to harm another they must consciously decide in their mind to hurt them and then act upon that thought.

  7. Pediatric Conclusion I am gonna get you TURTLE • Playing Violent Video Games causes users to hurt others • Mario Jumping on a turtle can cause a child to hit someone else? • That does not make any sense

  8. The Study

  9. Boys vs Girls After this fight I am going to get penalized for 5 Minutes that’s worth it!!!! • Boys are naturally more aggressive then girls • It shows in sports • Basketball=Fouls • Ice Hockey=Penalties • Adrenaline

  10. Violent Video Games are the cause… • Blaming Violent Video Games is a scapegoat instead of blaming the parents • Are the car companies blamed for car accidents when the user decides to speed? • In the case of the United States, why do cars accelerate past 85MPH when no roads in the USA exceed that speed limit?

  11. Other Studies • Other Studies discuss the exact opposite • Could Violent Video Games Reduce Rather Than Increase Violence? • The logic behind this is that children vent their aggression into games rather then each other.

  12. Me as a Violent Video Gamer • I have been playing “Violent Video games” since 1994 • My First game was Super Mario World • In 1998 I received my first Teen game Golden Eye, a James Bond FPS • Since then I have been in ZERO Fights • I continue to Play Violent Video Games today
