  1. Insurance Made Easy January 11,2013

  2. Types of InsuranceRelevant to Extension Work • Accident/Health • personal insurance that covers for doctor /hospital/etc. • Automotive/Vehicle • Personal insurance that covers injuries, vehicle damage and personal liability in the event of injury

  3. Property • Covers damage to property – The State of Colorado will not cover another entity’s property • Liability • Protects against judgments for damages when injury is incurred (physical or otherwise) and is caused by another person’s actions (or lack of action).

  4. So what applies, when…

  5. What about location??? • In state – Governmental Immunity Protection applies. • Out of state – Governmental Immunity Protection does NOT apply.

  6. So if you’re traveling out of state and carrying passengers (4-Hers, MGs) • In your own car • your insurance is primary. • Inform your insurance company that you carry passengers as a part of your job duties and be sure your insurance reflects that. • In a county car • May not be allowed in the future.

  7. Traveling out of state (con’t): • In a rental car • Purchase additional liability insurance offered by the rental car company. NOTE: In all cases, if you are ‘on the job’ you will be covered by CSU’s liability protection, BUT the limits of governmental immunity will not apply if an accident occurs out of the state of Colorado.

  8. What about insurance certificates??? ….to be continued….
