I Have…….Who has? • Review game- • Each person get a care ( there is a term & a definition.) • Familiarize yourself with each (1-2 minutes MAX) • Then someone is going to start by reading their definition • Who has. . . . .(Instead of everyone shouting out the answer) • The person that has that term will answer, I have . . . . • Then they will read their definition and it keeps going. • Everyone should pay attention to the term and definition

Essay #1 • At the end of the era in these chapters, Europe saw the rise of relatively modern forms of political organization- absolutism and constitutionalism—which would be the foundation for the modern states in Western Europe. What were the characteristics of these two forms of political organization? How did each evolve? What was the long term impact of this development? • This is tough because we didn’t discuss it. • Explain Absolutism and Constitutionalism • Absolutism- Leader with Total Power / Standing Army / Source of Revenue • Constitutionalism- Leader that has established limits / Legislative body • Depends on what country you look at- as countries unify one leader • With the Reformation challenging the church – leaders become stronger • With sources of revenue / exploration- leaders become wealthy / stronger • Evolution of leaders / countries- unified counties dominate Europe and the Globe: culturally, economically, and militarily– poor conditions cost leaders
Essay #2 • From the Renaissance to the age of absolutism (1415-1715), European society, underwent tremendous change. Discuss the change in terms of religion, economics, and social organization. How did these elements interact with one another?Did the status of women and blacks change over this time? If so in what ways? • In looking at this question, the idea is to see the big picture • Think back to the beginning and how life has changed each chptr • The Renaissance in general was a look back to the classics- • Look at what man has done- people look at what can be done now- Individualism- Humanism- Secularism • These concepts push the idea of exploration / accomplishment • Exploration brought trade / economic benefit / changes in society • As more people experienced wealth & accomplishment left religion. • Throughout this time, women and blacks were not seen as equals to a certain extent they were both left in a state of servitude or slavery.
Essay #3 • This era is highly described as one of increasing global contact. Describe this contact and assess its impact on Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. Who were the winners and losers in this round of international competition. • Again, look at the BIG picture- looking at all of the chapters • What contacts are made that can be considered Global • Start with Constantinople being the focal point of trade until- 1453 • Renaissance ideals / Economic Benefits / close of Constantinople push Europ • Briefly discuss Portuguese (Henry II) going to India (Malacca) / Spain –West • Europe (I) increased trade wealth / changes in society / govt / religion • Americas (I) conquered and exploited / goods used for European benefit • Asia (I) indifferent to Europeans / Isolationism to avoid religion / trade • Africa (I) Early Empires conquered / people sold into slavery / exploited • (the World as a Village)
