Nepal’s Climatic diversity is hospitable to Rubber • 1970 marks the genesis of rubber by an Entrepreneur JP Dhakal But has not expanded • Growth and expansion is marred by political , social and economic barriers • Situation of Rubber plantation in Nepal • Rubber plantation is of very recent history • Rubber plantation has not expanded even though there are incentives due to barriers

  3. Area under cultivation and yield • Total area under cultivation is 150 hectares • Yield per hectare 1796 kilograms

  4. 80 percent of holding by small . Average land holding is 0.5 acre .

  5. Resources, processing, products, utilization • Only 10 percent of the national demand is met by local production • Import of rubber from Korea, India and other countries

The area under cultivation hasnot expanded due to barriers • Lack of incentives from the Government • Lack of Dissemination of market and price information • Under developed road and drainage infrastructures • Lack of Education and training • Youths are motivated to migrate to the overseas due to higher incentives • rubber’s susceptibility to insect and fungal attacks • Lack of networking among small owners
