Money • Cash, credit card, Eft-pos, Travellers Cheques are the best methods of taking money over. Some people used the Travelex cash card last time but these did not work in all ATMs. Cash can be locked in the teacher’s safes. • Last time I just used my eft-pos card and withdraw a large chunk of money twice to keep the charges to a minimum. You get charged $5 per time you use your card
Food • Take stuff for breakfast, things like muesli barsand boxes of cereal are fine to take as long as they are sealed, declare these when you arrive. Some like to take noodles too for extras. • The rooms have fridge, microwave, cooking elements etc so breakfast and lunches/snacks can be made. The students will find the supermarket on the first day so can buy food supplies for the duration
Visas • NZ passports are part of the Visa waiver scheme and therefore get a 90 day visa as right but you still have to apply for an ESTA • ESTA - https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ • US $14 do not pay any more ! • If you hold a different visa than a New Zealand passport then please check if you need to apply for a visa check here ; • http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/ • http://london.usembassy.gov/vwp.html
Accommodation • Ohana Malia Waikiki • 2211 Kuhio Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815. • Power – get a plug adapter and 4 or 6 plug board – remember = 110volts so different to us , hair dryers go half speed, batteries charge slower. Electrical items from USA may not work in NZ because of the opposite reason – ASK when you buy ! • Phones – most should work, google your phone model and look for GSM 900 or 1800 or ask at a vodafone/telecom shop
