Bigbite field modeling for Polarized He3

Modeling the BigBite fields at the Pol.He3 target location using a 3D full space model to avoid restrictions by imposed TOSCA symmetries. Accurate calculations essential (~1 gauss). Initial results show field gradients at target location. Impacts relationship with magnetic steel near target.

  1. Bigbite field modeling for Polarized He3 Paul Brindza Nov 3, 2006

  2. Modeling the BigBite fields at the Pol He3 target location requires a 3D full space model so that imposed TOSCA modeling symmetries do not restrict the fields at the target location. Significant pieces of magnetic steel near the target must be modeled Accuracy of calculation must be ~ 1 gauss

  3. We turned a 3D CAD model of Bigbite and pivot into a TOSCA usable IDEAS Universal file. • Thanks to Al and Steve this is done and working • First results presented here

  4. Field gradient in Horizontal plan of target(+/- 7 mG/cm)

  5. Field gradient in Vertical plane (+2/-6 mG/cm)

  6. Field gradient in target vertical cross section (+/- t mG/cm)

  7. conclusions • 3d Model of Pivot and Big Bite seems to work • Fields and gradients in Pol Target area are small already ~ 7 mG/cm • Small improvements possible by extending the clamp (wider)
