1. Hiatal Hernia Symptom A hernia is when any of your internal organs push into an area of your internal body part where it should not belong to. The hiatus, on the other hand, is an opening in your diaphragm which is a muscular wall that separates the chest cavity from your abdomen. As your esophagus passes through the hiatus and in the end, meet the stomach; therefore, a hiatal hernia occurs when the stomach partially moves upwards into your chest through that opening. Two types of a hiatal hernia are there. One is sliding and another is par esophageal. Sliding hiatal hernia occurs when the stomach along with the portion of your esophagus moves upwards into the chest through the hiatus. It is the most common type of a hernia. A par esophageal hernia occurs less frequently occurs, but it is much dreadful. Here, both the esophagus and the stomach stay in their normal position but a portion of the stomach squeezes through the hiatus in the portion of the esophagus. This type of a hernia may not show any symptom but there is a danger for the stomach to be strangled in such type of a hernia. The main symptoms of a hiatal hernia Although most of the small hiatal hernia do not show any symptoms, but in the case of a larger one, it will reveal various indications and symptoms. Heartburn It is the most predominantly occurred symptom, which can indicate you prominently that you might have got the problem of acid reflux caused by a hiatal hernia. When you have the issue of a hiatal hernia, the acidic content of your stomach could move upwards through the sphincter valve into your esophagus. As the result of that, you may have the sensation of irritation in your chest and you can have an acidic taste in your throat. In general, it is called heartburn. 2. Sometimes you may not have the severe feeling of heartburn but there could be a backflow of stomach acid into your esophagus which is called Acid Reflux. It will cause an irritation in your food pipe and you will feel quite uneasy for that. It also occurs because of the sphincter in your stomach gets partially opened due to the impact of acidic content in your stomach and sometimes due to your obesity factor as well. It allows the acidic content to move upward and impact your esophagus. Regurgitation of undigested food content When you have an Acid Reflux it also contains some undigested food particles which may regurgitate into your mouth leaving your mouth an irritating acidic sensation. It may be considered as a symptom of a hiatal hernia. Vomiting of blood or having black stool If you have a vomiting and you notice any blood content in it, it could be a symptom hiatal hernia. It is also the same when you have a black stool. It indicates internal bleeding into your gastrointestinal tract and hiatal hernia one of the major reasons for that. Some other symptoms If you have chest or abdominal pain along with shortness of breath, it could also be an indication for a hiatal hernia. In such case, you should immediately consult a doctor. Your difficulty in swallowing could also be considered as another Hiatal Hernia Symptoms.
