The Revelation: Introduction • “Signified,”(KJV), Communicated (NASB), “Made it known” (NIV) • Means that the revelation was to be delivered as expressed by signs (semeian). To the apostle John all wonders or miracles were “signs”; he used the word repeatedly in his Gospel. The reader must interpret the signs to determine the divine message intended for the people to whom it was addressed, and the meaning for us today. The word “sign” appears seven times in the book . . . (Hailey, Revelation p. 96)
