  1. Declaring Independence BY: Gabi and Sara.

Steps to Independence. • After the battles of 1775, American colonies and Britain were having war but many people did not like to have war with Britain, because all of the taxes that they were putting on the colonists. • After the war with Britain, the colonists were wanting independence and freedom from Britain.

  3. Events During 1775 • The events during 1775 should have left the British parliament in no dought to tax the colonist. The colonists wouldn’t allow it so they asked Thomas Jefferson to argue for there independence. • But the colonist were wondering what were Thomas Jefferson's argument’s for there independence. • Could the colonists stand up to Britain? • YES, because they wanted to end the war.

  4. Common Sense • January 14,1776 Thomas Pain wrote a pamphlet called Common Scene. With in a few moths the colonists bought over 100,000 copies. • George Washington said, “ I find Common Scene is working a powerful change in the minds of many.” • What are Thomas Paines arguments for independence? • Paines arguments for independence are, to get rights for the colonist and colonies.

  5. The Declaration • On June 7, 1776 the second continental congress agreed that independence was needed so a delegate from Virginia asked Thomas Jefferson to write The Declaration of Independence. • For the beginning Jefferson wrote “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by there creator with certain unaliable Rights, that among theses are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. • Why is the declaration so important to America? • Because it gave them equal rights and happiness.

  6. Freedom • During the year of 1777 enslaved African Americans were offered freedom if they become a patriot solder. • But African Americans were confused. They wanted to know why they had to fight on both sides of the war. • Why did Washington decide to attack Trenton? • Washington wanted to win the battle, so that his soldiers would not give up.

  7. Greens strategy • Every body wanted to know what was general Greens strategy to defeat the British. • So what was general Greens strategy to defeat the British? • Green and his group of solders would sneak up on the British
