  1. Precalculus Section 4.1Identify functions and their parts A function is a correspondence that assigns to every element in the domain exactly one element in the range. Parts of a function Domain- set of independent values (x values/abscissas) Range – set of dependent values(y values/ordinates) Rule- equation that pairs the elements of the domain and range • Function f(x) = 2x + 3 domain = {1,3,5} • Find the range.

  2. Find the domain, range and zeros of the following functions. g(x) = h(r) =

  3. Functions are a subset of a more general class of correspondences called relations. A relation is any correspondence, while a function pairs each domain element with exactly one range element. Is it a function? {(1,3), (4,7), (1,6)} { (5,7), (-8,3), (2,3)} • Vertical line test- If any vertical line can be drawn to intersect the graph of a relation more than once, it is not a function.

  4. Is it a function?
