WARNING!!!! ONLY PROVIDE CPR IF YOU ARE PROPERLY TRAINED!!!
CPR- The Breath Of Life • Determine Responsiveness • A is for Airway • B is for Breathing • C is for Circulation
Determine Responsiveness • Remember AVPU • A is for Alert (patient is alert) • V is for Verbal (patient responds to verbal stimulus) • P is for pain (patient responds to painful stimulus) • U is for unconscious (patient is not responding)
Airway • Roll patient on their back. Remember to support their head and neck. • Open airway using the head tilt/ chi lift technique. • Look, Listen and Feel for breathing for 3 to 5 seconds. • If there is no response move on to B.
Breathing • Hold patient in head tilt/ chin lift position and pinch their nose. • Put you mouth on patients being sure to make a tight seal. • Give two breaths and look for chest rise. • If no chest rise reposition and try again. • If still no rise, begin Heimlich maneuver to clear airway. • Once breathing goes through move on to C.
Circulation • Check carotid pulse for 5 to 10 seconds. • If there is a pulse, give 1 rescue breath every 5 seconds until the patient starts breathing or emergency services arrive. • If there is no pulse, begin chest compressions.
