A variable is a characteristic of an individual. It can take different values for different individuals. There are two types of variables… Variables
Quantitative Variable: Always numerical. This is a variable which can be measured, in feet, pounds, points, etc. Math can be calculated using values of quantitative variables. Variables
Qualitative Variable: Usually not numerical. This is a label for the variable (such as job titles, favorite color, etc). Also known as categorical variable. • When numerical, these may be items such as phone numbers, jersey numbers, etc. (anything that math cannot be done on). Variables
Of individuals. Of quantitative variables. Of non-numerical qualitative variables. Of numerical qualitative variables. Give some Examples…
Write 3 examples of individuals in the high school setting. List at least two each quantitative, non-numerical qualitative, and numerical qualitative variables for each type of individual. Label each type. Work as a group—do NOT just divide up the work. Turn in one paper. Group Work
