What is emotional appeal? • Emotional appeal, as stated by business dictionary, is a “Promotional activity aimed at highlighting emotional factors of a product instead of the logical or practical factors.” (www.businessdictionary.com) • In writing, an author will try to use emotional appeal in order to appeal to the reader, and persuade them to the writer’s specific wants or needs.

In Conclusion • When writing, an author may be able to use several different tactics in order to address their reader and persuade them of their ideas. • While most readers would like to start their assessment of a reading objectively, their life’s experience will be vulnerable to an author’s use of emotional appeal. Therefore, a writer has a particular window of oppourtunity that could allow them to effectively reach their readers.
