TMS in Brief • Approx. 8,000 members (professional + student) • one third international • 65% from industry, 20% academia, 10% government • 3500 attended last week’s Annual Meeting • Professional society covering: • minerals processing • primary metals production • basic research and advanced application on structural and functional materials

  3. Public and Governmental Affairs Committee • Prepares programming for Annual and Fall Meetings • Maintains an area of the TMS web site providing information to the public, government, and TMS members • Participates in umbrella organizations representing the S&T and Materials Communities (e.g. FMS, ASTRA) • Co-sponsors Joint Distinguished Lectureship in Materials and Society (with ASM International)

P&GA Programming • World Trade Center (Spring 2002) • Homeland Defense (Fall 2002) • Materials for 21st Century Defense and Federal Funding Workshop (Spring 2003) • Steel Industry / Policy (Fall 2003, joint with ISS) • Education and Workforce Issues (Spring 2004) • Materials and Quality of Life (Fall 2004, with IOM3, supporting Distinguished Lecture topic)
