NEXT STUDIESNew stave prototypes Design and simulation work…then prototyping Simulation of lattice staves done with a new technique (pre-moulded skins) Simulation and prototyping of new full sandwich staves (New materials, NTPT collaboration, etc…) Simulation of filament winding staves
News Arrival of a new Engineer (1/02/2014, VIA program) in PH/DT. -Main role: setting up a laboratory dedicated to composite prototyping and characterisation. -Collaboration with ALICE experiment. -Collaboration with CLIC vertex studies. Work description (proposal): Francois Boyer will be asked to realise different type of prototypes within the CLIC VERTEX detector project. Several techniques are studied: standard sandwich structures, filament winding, very thin prepreg implementation. Here is the list of the proposed activities: -Material procurement (Prepreg, simple fibres (3K, 6K, etc.), resin, core materials, tools). -Setting up a material library. This library would be a database of fibers, resins, prepregs, and core materials suitable for the vertex detector. -Stave prototyping (different designs proposed). This R & D activity can be done in collaboration with other experiment (ILD), institutes/universities and companies (TPT, Composite design, etc...). The manufacturing developments of filament winding staves prototypes will be asked. The manufacturing improvement of full sandwiches and open sandwiches staves will be proposed in order to get small productions with qualities close to industrial standards. -Specific tooling used for the prototyping (design with Catia / Ansys ACP and production follow up) -Prototype characterisation Measurements of flatness, dimensions, mass, flexural stiffness, torsional stiffness, and eventually X0 are the minimum characteristics needed for each prototype. Supervisors: Francois-Xavier NUIRY and Fernando DUARTE RAMOS.
