What is FCCLA? • A Career and Technical Student Organization for Teens • males and females are able to be members of FCCLA • Nationally Recognized Student Organization • Members currently are or have been enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences course
FCCLAThe only organization of its kind that: • Focuses on Family Issues • Uses Individual and Team Projects to provide Leadership Opportunities • Develops Critical Thinking and Decision- Making Skills • Recognizes Student Achievement
How long has FCCLA been around? • Was previously known as Future Homemakers of America (FHA) from 1945-1999 • Name changed nationally in 1999 to FCCLA
The Mission of FCCLA
The Mission of FCCLA is: • To promote Personal Growth and Leadership Development through Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Focusing On The Multiple Roles of: • Family Member • Wage Earner • Community Leader
Eight Purposes 1.) To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life 2.) To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society 3.) To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community 4.) To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony 5.) To promote greater understanding between youth and adults 6.) To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities. 7.) To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society 8.) To promote Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations

Important Local Information: • Northglenn High School is an Intra-Curricular chapter, meaning that FCCLA activities that are integrated into the classroom as much as possible. This minimizes time spent outside of class. • FCCLA activities are utilized to enhance course content. • You are a local member because you are enrolled in a course in the FACS Department

Cost of Dues • National: • Includes National, State, and District Dues • $25.00 • Due before attending any state or national event Please Note: If you are enrolled in more than one FACS course, you only have to pay dues once.
Executive Officer Team • An officer team will be compiled for each participating course. The officer team will be comprised of… • A President • A Vice President • A Secretary • A Vice President of Events • A Vice President of Public Relations • Each officer should plan on attending “whole school” meetings twice a month.
Officer Responsibilities • President: • Presides over Meetings • Keeps in close contact with Advisor • Oversees the NGHS FCCLA Program of Work • Vice President: • Presides over Meetings if President is unable to Attend • Provides Class with FCCLA Updates • National FCCLA week in February
