WWW of International Academic Mobility: Who? Why? What? Dr. Andrei Kuznetsov Russia
‘The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation’ Bernard Russel, philosopher • ‘Birds have wings; they are free; they can fly wherever they want when they want. They boast the kind of mobility many people would but envy’ Roger Tory Peterson, naturalist and educator
We are to specify the actual objectives of ELT in the context of internationalization of education and in terms of - - content - technology - institutions - international academic mobility
Social and cultural competencies Three levels – • Intracultural • Intercultural • Incorporacultural
Approaches to the development of cultural training materials • Nomenclature+Generalization • Gap-bridging
Nomenclature+Generalization E.g.: - key place-names, - key subject fields of politics, economy and culture of the host country/-ies, - generalized traits of mother tongues
Gap-bridging The something that is really new, culturally challenging, provocative, extravagant E.g.: - Tricky manifestations of professional cultures • Behavioral strategies • Communicative implications
International Mobility Competencies: • specific aspects of language competency • specific aspects of cultural competency • specific aspects of communicative strategic competency
Results of SWOT-analysis: Needs - in-depth training in international professional ethics, etiquette, AM terminology, partner expectations, etc.; • Role-play based training that would reproduce typical AM situations (e.g.: student-teacher, student-student, student-host programme coordinator, AM programme interviews, etc.); • Cross-cultural training (dailies)
