What isHypertrophic Cardiomyopathy • The heart muscles become enlarged. • The walls of the heart thicken, which prevents the heart from functioning properly.
Signs & Symptoms • Breathlessness with exertion or even at rest. • Swelling of the legs, ankles, and feet. • Bloating of the abdomen due to fluid build up. • Fatigue, dizziness, lightheaded, and fainting. • Irregular heart beats that feel rapid. • S&S varies depending on how the disease progresses. • Could also result in congestive heart failure.
Causes • The heart muscles can enlarge when being strained either by heart valves that don’t function properly or by high blood pressure. • This will make the heart walls thicken and beat stronger but it can obstruct blood flow.

Treatment • Different medications prescribe • Special pacemaker-coordinates the contractions between the left and right ventricles • Drug therapy • Implantable cardioverter- defibrillator (ICD) • surgery
Lifestyle Changes • Avoid abuse of alcohol • Avoid abuse of cocaine • Get enough vitamins and minerals • Control blood pressure with diet and exercise
Medications used for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy • Betablockers to relax heart: -lopressor or calcium -channel blockers ( verapamil)
