The 5 Pillars of Islam • The Five Pillars of Islam,which are five acts of worship required of all Muslims. • The 1st pillar is Shahadah.Shahadah is to believe that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger. • The 2nd pillar Salah. We pray Salah five times a day. It is compulsory on every Muslim. • The 3rdpillar is Zakat. Zakat is charity give to the poor and needy. Muslims above the Nisaab level must give Zakat. The 4th pillar is Sawn. Sawn is fasting in the month of Ramadan. We must refrain from eating or drinking from sunrise to dawn. • The 5th pillar is Hajj. Hajj is the pilgrimage to Makkah.

Muhammad • 570-Muhammad was born in Mecca,Arabia • 576-Orphaned upon dead of mother • 595-Marries to Kadijah -older, wealthy widow • 610-At age 40 angel Gabriel reveals the message to Muhammad • 619-His protector uncle died • 622-Emigrates from Mecca to Medina • 623-Orders raids on Meccan caravan • 632-Muhammad dies

  5. Mecca and Medina • Mecca • Capital of Saudi Arabia, located in western Saudi Arabia, as the birthplace of Muhammad it is the holiest city of Islam • Mecca is the place where they gave birth to Muhammad Medina • The old Arab or non-European quarter of a North African town.

  6. Symbols • Hinduism-The Aum • Judaism-Star of David • Islam-Star and Crescent • Christianity –The Cross • Buddhism-Wheel of Dharma • Sikhism-The Khanda
