Short term model • Group, Individual, and Workshops • Counseling Areas: • Personal: relationships, depression, anxiety, etc. • Career: career exploration with assessments • Academic: motivation, procrastination, etc • Academic Counseling • Learning Disability Screening (vs. eval and medication) Counseling

Crisis intervention is designed to help stabilize a person: risk of harm to self or others; regain coping skills • Daytime crisis hours M-F 8-5 (but dedicated staff available 10-noon and 1-4 pm) • HelpLine is 4:00 pm-8:00 am M-F and all weekend, 845.2700. # is located on the back of ID • Services are available to all currently enrolled students Crisis
2 full time in-house psychiatrists • Psychiatrists are MDs that specialize in the brain/behavior and medication which works with specific behaviors/symptoms • The SHS can refer directly to a psychiatrist BUT students cannot self-refer • Students must be referred to a psychiatrist by a counselor’s recommendation (primarily a talk-therapy agency) Medication
Outreach to campus community • Health and Wellness Program • Biofeedback • Qigong • Anger Management Program • Veterans • GLBT • Eating Concerns • Substance Abuse • Suicide Prevention Other Cool Services
Student counseling records are kept separate from academic records due to state and federal privacy laws • Information is confidential (even from parents) unless a student provides written permission • Times we break confidentiality: • Reports of abuse • Imminent threats to life (themselves or someone else) • Sexual relationship w/ a previous therapist • Court mandated Confidentiality
Services are funded by the Student Service Fee and are therefore free. HOWEVER, beginning Monday, there will be a $25 fee for late cancellation and missed appointments. All students are eligible for a screening appointment to determine best course of action (long term or short term?) Even if a student has been referred to a community provider, crisis services, groups, workshops, and biofeedback are still available to students Fees
