Program Update/Overview • Welcome to the 2013 CAA Baseball and Softball Season • Significant growth over 5 past years • In-house program changes for 2012 (youth baseball) • Improved program- more volunteer opportunities, sponsorship program, and formation of Dugout Club • Key Updates • Record Number of Players Registered - 1,197 • Expanded Field Space by working with Victoria/Carver County

P2P workouts • 26 hours available for 13 and 14-year olds • Registration is available on CAA website for $50. • Workout hours available under Documents • Space is provided, but instruction is not. Parents/coaches will be responsible for stations. • Fielding, throwing, hitting and pitching based on cage

Key Dates • METRO BASEBALL: • Metro tryouts: 13s, 14s - April 13th and 14th • Team formation and posting on the website by 4/17 • Practice begins on 4/17 • Lake Ann Park (outside- weather permitting- must attend both days) • In case of inclement weather, evaluations will be held at Chanhassen High School. The website will be updated with information • Metro tryouts: 15s – May 5th • Lake Ann Park (outside- weather permitting- must attend both days) • In case of inclement weather, evaluations will be held at Chanhassen High School. The website will be updated with information • Pants, belt, hat and socks pick up for all players 13-15 for house and Metro will be 4/15 from 5:30-8:30 at CAA storage

  16. Non-Metro Baseball • 13 Yr. Old/7th Grade Community League • Teams will be selected through a draft. All players must attend the outdoor evaluation the first week of practice. Additional information on evaluations will be sent out as we get closer. Practice will begin in mid-April. The regular season will run through mid-July. Practices and games will be at Bandimere Park, Lake Ann Park and Diethelm Park, Monday through Saturday and an occasional Sunday. • 14-15 Yr. Old / 8th-9th Grade Community League • Fourteen and fifteen year-olds will be combined into one in-house league. Teams will be selected through a draft. Teams will be formed late April. The regular season will run through mid-July. Practices and games will be at Lake Susan Park, Bandimere Park, Carver and Diethelm Park. Monday through Saturday and an occasional Sunday. • 16-18 yr. Old / 10th-12th Grade Community League (SYBL) • This is a new offering this year. Players who play in this league will play teams from Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, St Louis Park and Edina. These are players who do not participate in Legion baseball or would like to continue playing baseball with their friends during the summer casually, but also have other commitments to sports or work.

METRO BASEBALL • TEAM COMPOSITION: • 13-year olds: 4 Metro (AAA, AA, and 2A) • 14-year olds: 3 Metro (AAA, 2AA) • 14/15-year olds: 2 A • 15-year olds: 2 Metro (AAA, AA) • COACHES • EVALUATIONS: (Prior Year and field evaluations are used) • Day 1: Fastballs (hitting and pitching), Infield (SS to 1st), Outfield throw to cutoff, and base running (home to 1st). OPTIONAL: Catching • Day 2: Hitting Curveballs, Pitching (fastballs/curveballs) Infield (charge and throw), Outfield (throw to cut-off) and base running (2nd to home). OPTIONAL: Catching

  19. METRO BASEBALL • EVALUATION SCORING: • Day 1 and Day 2- lowest scores thrown out to calculate final score. (If a player chooses to catch, lowest two scores from pitching, infield, and outfield will be thrown out) • $25 evaluation fee collected during 1st day of tryouts • Lakeside Promotions on April 15th 5:30 – 8:30. Chan wear will be available for order.

Concussion Training Minnesota Legislature Concussion Law Passed September 1st, 2011 Mandates: >All coaches and officials receive concussion training and education (3-year intervals) >Coaches MUST remove athlete from activity if they exhibit signs or behaviors or are suspected of sustaining a concussion >Law requires health care professional signature to return to play if athlete is removed CAA has already instituted training- available on our Website for anyone- provided by Centers for Disease Control >All aspects of the law will be STRICTLY Upheld by CAA baseball and softball

VOLUNTEERING • Volunteer Board Member • League Volunteer Director • Angel Whiteside • Fee • $150 volunteer fee will be destroyed at the end of the season upon completion of the required 5 hours of service. Hours will be updated monthly on the CAA Website. Final hours need to be completed by 8/1/12.

VOLUNTEERING • How Do I Volunteer • Link on CAA Baseball/Softball website • Volunteer expectations • Spontaneous help is always welcome, but does not qualify as volunteer hours • When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the our League organization the right to conduct necessary background checks.

To qualify for volunteer hours, the job(s) must be posted on CAA website. If it is not in website, than it does not qualify.

  28. Dugout Club • The Dugout Club is a booster club created to support diamond sports within the Chanhassen High School boundaries. It’s primary objectives include maintenance and improvement of the stadium complex at Chanhassen High School as well as additional community development projects to provide safe, playable fields and practice facilities and equipment for the baseball and softball teams within our member communities • www.dugout-club.org

  30. Stadium Walk • The Dugout Club will be selling a limited number of bricks to build the 2013 4’ x 8’ sidewalk panel for The Stadium Walk at the Chanhassen diamond sport complex. LEAVE YOUR MARK ON HISTORY • Help sponsor ongoing improvements to the Storm diamond sport facilities by purchasing an engraved brick. Personalized bricks will be placed at the entrance to the stadium complex as each 10’ x 10’ sidewalk panel is sold out. Your brick will provide ongoing financial resources to support ongoing and future facility improvements 2012 Stadium Walk
