  1. The Juno Awards

  2. History The Juno Awards date back to 1970. It was originally started by Stan Klees and Walt Grealis, and at that time it was called the Gold leaf Awards. The next year it was renamed the Juno Awards in honor of Pierre Juneau. The spelling was changed when it was discovered that a Greek goddess was also named Juno, but it was spelt differently.

  3. History They were also responsible for implementation of the Canadian Content Regulations in 1971. In 1975 they made their first appearance on live air. The show was based in Toronto from 1975 – 1994, and then transformed into a traveling show visiting cities all over Canada including: St. John’s Halifax Edmonton Just to name a few

Awards: • The are currently 44 awards,; below are a few examples of them: • Aboriginal Album of the Year • Album of the Year • Artist of the Year • Blues Album of the Year • Juno Fan Choice • Country Album of the Year • Classical Composition of the Year • New Group of the Year • Electronic Album of the Year

Nomination Process: • The nominating process takes place over 13-14 month period. • In order to be nominated you have to have live in Canada over the past six months of the nominating period and are Canadian either by birth, passport or immigration statues. • The only exception is with the International Album of the Year.

  6. Who would you give Artist of the Year to? • Choose a Canadian artist, and explain why they should get Artist of the Year. Be prepared to explain your answer.
