Afton Report to ESCIT. August 9, 2007. Afton Position on Phosphorus Volatility. Both of the proposed tests, the PEI165-16 and 20-Hour Sequence IIIG show reasonable correlation with emission system protection and will provide a means to document phosphorus volatility in GF-5.

Afton Position on Phosphorus Volatility • Both of the proposed tests, the PEI165-16 and 20-Hour Sequence IIIG show reasonable correlation with emission system protection and will provide a means to document phosphorus volatility in GF-5. • Afton can live with either test but we prefer the PEI test because it is more sensitive and cost-effective
PEI165-16 Shows Correlation with Catalyst Deactivation Higher PEI165-16 leads to more degradation of catalyst light-off temperature. R2=0.53 Seven fully-formulated oils tested in the Afton Catalyst Test and in Savant PEI.
PEI165-16 Shows Correlation with Phosphorus Retention The seven oils shown in previous slide represent a broad range of PEI and phosphorus retention. R2=0.69 In the Afton Catalyst Test, the catalyst is aged 240 hours. The oil is changed every 24-hours, so there are ten (10) 24-hour phosphorus retention measurements taken per test.
