The Sons Of Eli • (1 Samuel 2:12) Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they had no regard for the LORD. (RSV) • (1 Samuel 2:12) Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the LORD. (NKJV)
The Sons Of Eli • They Did Not Respect The Worship Of God! • (1 Samuel 2:13-14) The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant would come, while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand, and he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. So they did at Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. (RSV) • 1 Samuel 2:15-17
The Sons Of Eli • They Did Not Respect The Moral Law Of God! • (1 Samuel 2:22) Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. (NKJV)
Who Is To Blame For Such Bad Behavior? • God Placed The Blame Upon The Father. (1 Samuel 2:27-29; 3:13,14) • God Placed The Blame Upon The Sons As Well. (1 Samuel 2:25) • God Proclaimed That Both Would Pay A Terrible Price! • (1 Samuel 2:30-31) "Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: 'I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.' But now the LORD says: 'Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. 'Behold, the days are coming that I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your house. (NKJV)
Lessons We Must Learn! • Placing A Child In A Spiritual Environment Doesn’t Make A Child Spiritual. • Irreverent Behavior Must Be Consistently Rebuked And Corrected. • Parents Should Diligently Teach Their Children The Word Of God. • If Children Are To Honor God, Their Parents Must Honor God Above The Children.
