  2. Salary Study Charge • The Salary Study Committee was appointed by OSUE Human Resources and the OSUE Administrative Cabinet. • The committee was charged with expanding on the initial salary study conducted by Chris Igodan.

Data Used Data used in this comparative salary study was taken from the following sources: • Analyses of Cooperative Extension Service Positions,USDA, December 2005 • OSUE Human Resources • U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment Statistics, May 2005 • The Ohio Education Association

  4. Study Limitations • Information received from various Government surveys were not always reported to reflect the organizational structure of OSU Extension, making regional/national comparisons difficult. • Descriptive comparisons do not explain or predict the reasons for salary variations – caution is warranted when making decisions strictly based on comparisons.

  5. Research Questions • How do OSUE Educator salaries compare to other Extension salaries at the National Scale? • How do OSUE Educator salaries compare to other Extension salaries within the North Central Region? • How do OSUE Educator salaries compare to similar professional teaching salaries in Ohio? • How do OSUE Educator salaries compare to salaries for all Ohio occupations (a one value comparison)?

Comparative Analysis What salaries did we compare? • We compared mean salaries of Ohio teaching occupations with those of OSUE Educators. • We compared mean salaries of Ohio Teachers (K-1 to K-12), having Master’s Degrees, with OSUE Educator salaries. • We compared mean salaries of OSU Extension Educators with North Central Region/States

  7. Procedures • Mean salaries were calculated using Excel and Jump-Statistical Software. • Thematic mapping was used to describe the extent to which OSUE Educator salaries deviate from other States at the national scale.

Definitions of Terms • County Extension Agents/County Extension Educators (Multi –County Director, Multi County Program Leader, Multi-County Agent, County Director, County Coordinator/ Leader, County Program Leader( title codes—200,240,270, 300,330, 340 and 370. • Supervisors: State Program Leaders (040), Regional/District Director (100), Regional/District Program Leader(140) • Field Staff: County Extension Director--300, County Program Leader-340, County Extension Agent—370, Multi- County Director—title codes 200, Multi County Program Leader--240,

Definitions of Terms • Administrative: Communication and Information Services (070), Administrative Support Services (080), Staff Development (090) • Specialists (State Specialist –050/051, District and Area Specialists—150, University Head—030) • North Central Region states include: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin

  13. Definitions of Selected USDA Job Title Codes: • Code 050- State Specialist - That/those person(s) who is/are responsible for a segment of a total program within a State. He/she normally has specific responsibilities in agronomy, computer specialist, 4-H, dairy, nutrition, clothing, or other segments of programs or subject-matter. • Code 051- Associate Specialist - that/those person(s) who provides support to the State Specialist working on a special project or grant. Definitions of Selected USDA Job Title Codes: • Code 150- District/Area Specialist - That/those person(s) who is/are responsible for a highly specialized segment of a subject matter for a district of the State. • Code 370- County Extension Agent - The person(s) who is/are responsible for a segment of a program and issue in one county. He/she provides leadership in planning, organizing, implementing, and is accountable for a segment of a program or issue. He/she reports to the county director/county coordinator/leader.
