Best Predictors of seminary: • UM parachurch participation (0.239) • Evangelical parachurch part. (-0.115) • Conversion experience (-0.358) • No significance: • Religious tradition • Age, gender • Participation in youth group • Raised in UM church
Jesuit study of seminarians (Thomas Gaunt) • Average age of entering Jesuits increased from 24.7 in 1980 to 31.9 in 2001. • Ave age (2002) = 30.3, (2003) = 26.9 • There has been a steep decline in men entering novitiate, but it is entirely due to dramatic decline in youngest cohorts. • The number entering above 26 years of age has remained very stable over last 20 years.
