Health GAP is… • An international AIDS activist organization dedicated to eliminating the barriers to lifesaving HIV treatment for everyone. • A strong believer in direct action organizing and strategic policy making. • Began with a series of beautifully choreographed direct actions targeting then VP and Pres. Lifting of the HIV travel Ban -In 2009 President Obama lifted the ban on travel and immigration to the U.S. by individuals with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS . -There are still limitations to PLWHA due to other U.S. travel restrictions 07/26/12 www.healthgap.org 4
The Global Village • The Global Village is a diverse and vibrant space where community gathers from all over the world to meet, share and learn from each other. It is a space for community to demonstrate the application of science and good leadership. Financial Assistance • 2012 accessible to people from resource-limited settings and communities • AIDS 2012 has selected more than 800 recipients of full and partial conference scholarships from a pool of more than 10,000 applications • At the direction of the CCC, the scoring process gives priority to HIV-positive people, people from resource-limited settings and communities, researchers, young people, women, community activists and civil society representatives. 07/26/12 www.healthgap.org 7
