The preterite tense of -er/-ir verbs 1 The -ER/ -IR regular verbs take the following endings : As with other tenses you have to: 1. start with the infinitive. 2. take off the infinitive ending. 3. add the endings for the tense. -ER / -IR endings -í -iste -ió -imos -isteis -ieron Notice the ‘we’ ending in –AR and –IR verbs is the same as in the present tense.
